Biofiltering

1. TYPE OF TECHNOLOGY
Absorption and oxidation, with deodorization

2. RETENTION EFFICIENCY
Deodorization efficiency is 99%.

3. EQUIPMENT AND PROCESS DESCRIPTION
Biofiltering technology entails the neutralization of odours or VOCs through natural processes. Odorous air is ventilated into a treatment unit where it is humidified and biodegraded. Biodegradation occurs inside the biofilter, where organisms present in the wet garnish absorb and oxidize the odorous molecules through complex enzymatic processes. Bacteria naturally present the ability of biodegradation. In order to maintain bacterial cultures, certain environmental requirements must be met, such as:
– temperatures between 5 and 50 °C
– humidity greater than 80%
– the absence of excessive quantities of dust
– an atmosphere with an oxygen component of 15%

Available biofiltering support materials:
– granular peat
– fibrous peat
– SBRM
– carbonates

4. APPLICABLE FIELDS
Biofiltration is mainly used in sewage treatment and pumping stations, in industrial sectors that generate VOCs.
