Multicyclones

1. TYPE OF TECHNOLOGY
Dry filtering.

2. RETAINABLE IMPURITIES
Generally, dust particles.

3. RETENTION EFFICIENCY
Retainability is greater than 95%.

4. EQUIPMENT AND PROCESS DESCRIPTION
As the name suggests, multicyclones are composite dust separators incorporating multiple cyclones arranged parallelly. Multicyclones consist of large numbers of cyclones of reduced diameter, whose shape and dimensions vary according to particular application circumstances. The use of cyclones of small diameter affords high filtering efficiency, as efficiency increases with decreasing diameters, where other conditions are constant. For the same application, a multicyclone is costlier than a simple cyclone, for which reason multicyclones constitute an optimal solution in limited situations. They are usually employed for intermediate air dust concentrations, where the particles are non-abrasive, their specific mass exceeds 300 kg/m3 and their size is greater than 10 μm. There are special types of multicyclones suitable for de-dusting gases released during combustion of solid fuels in thermal plants.

Advantages:
– low pressure drops (approx. 80 mm H2O)
– no maintenance costs
– low operating costs
– moderate price

5. APPLICABLE FIELDS
Multicyclones can be employed in any industrial process where dust concentration is high, such as wood processing, animal husbandry, extraction mines, etc.
